Period Oak floor repairs
Period Oak floor restored in an old Rectory
This original 18c oak floor required rejuvenating in terms of paint splashes removal and withyears of soiling obscuring the inherent beauty of the grain .Additionally some of the oak boards were damaged ,we removed these and replaced them from our stocks of reclaimed equivalent 18c oak.
Before
After
The oak floor was *sympathetically sanded being with care taken not to remove the natural patina of the wood that had built up over the years and finally the floor received 2 coats of oil/wax to produce a mid sheen finish.
Old ink stains remain - possibly from the Vicar himself ! and form part of the narrative that makes these old floors so interesting !
*Period floors require careful sanding and drum sanders and other intensive 'walk' sanders should be avoided ; unfortunately we have come across quite a few period floors that have been sanded iether by the home owner or even by other 'floor restoration 'contractors that have been ruined by using the wrong techniques.
